Hi, I want to control ID pin of USB OTG cable in my USB device that is connected to tablet. This means I need an micro USB cable with 5 cores so ID pin is wired from the tablet to my device. Do you think it is possible to buy any kind of USB cable at least 1.5 m long with 5 cores/wires that has one end with micro USB plug (the other end is not important as I will cut it and solder it on my PCB)? |

It normally is grounded or floating. If you are lucky, maybe somebody makes standard-incompliant micro to micro cables wired 1:1. Or extension cables with a micro socket perhaps? Certainly nothing with normal A type plugs or sockets at the other end. |

Ha! If you ever do find such a cable I could use a couple. I've looked, all the OTG cables are just grounded at the connector. Nobody brings it out as a separate conductor. I ended up using Cat-3 3 pair cable and soldering on a micro USB connector from (I think) Adafruit. It sounds like you're doing the same kind of thing that I did. I made a box to enable an Android to connect to a desktop. In normal mode it would allow you to use ADB to install apps that you were testing. You could switch the Android to host mode with the ID pin. You would switch the USB connection to a peripheral which was a keyboard/mouse emulator. The backend of the keyboard emulator was connected to the desktop. You could inject characters at about 1000/sec. This operated a lot faster than the Android shell input command. The box just used little SIP SPST relays and a microcontroller. |

I have Lenovo tab E8 that, when in OTG host mode, can: 1) supply power for connected USB device (when ID pin is shorted to ground) 2) charge using power that is supplied by USB device (when ID pin is connected via 10 kOhm resistor to ground) My USB device doesn't always have external power supply connected to charge the tablet (then it shorts ID pin to ground) but if it has external power connected, it connects ID pin via 10 kOhm resistor to ground to tell the tablet that it can charge. I discovered that there are manufacturers (or at least one) in China who can manufacture 5 core USB cable. |
