EMI filter on Mains,
metallic box mostly found in respectable devices, in the AC input of them.

By voting you are showing how much do you care about them.  :)

Personally, I remove them from dead devices so to add them on my own projects.

My projects are mostly low voltage and don't run directly off mains power.

A few years ago I got a few integrated AC inlet/switch/EMI filter components. Whenever my project has an AC input, I use those.

I try to power things with wall warts, but if building something line powered I almost always use a Corcom or similar filter. The side benefit is they usually accept standard line/mains cords.

I use Meanwell power modules, they have built-in EMI filters and fuses.

Totally depends what your project is doing.

No point putting an EMI filter on an electric blanket.

Well, EMI filter is just like any any other filter that try to reduce the frequency interference by filtering the frequency. I like to collect them and make a note about their rating so that i can use them in some of my own small projects like frequency jammer, FM transmitter etc.
