852D+ and Microscope

(1/3) > >>

bostonman:
I have the 852D+ hot air station and having problems trying to use the hot air with my microscope.

I have a 30x microscope, and, in order to see the IC on a PCB, I need to position the microscope a short distance from the PCB. This causes a lack of space hindering the ability to move the hot air pencil evenly around the IC.

Does anyone have a solution on this issue and/or suggest a USB scope that can sit further away from the PCB, but while focusing close?

Hemi345:
45 degree air nozzles for your station.  A lot of the video bloggers that do hot air rework use them under their microscopes.

The optics of long arm microscopes are usually designed to provide a reasonable working distance between the object and the objective lens:

Used long arm microscopes do appear on eBay, from time to time, and occasionally sell for a low amount.

I saw one USB scope for about $22 (???) and then found someone reviewing it on YouTube. Unfortunately the scope needed to be within inches of the object.

As for curved heads, I don't believe the 852D has any curved head accessories; just straight.

Do you really need to have 30X magnification?  I have an Indian made scope that goes from 10x to 40x.  Even at 10x, it was too much magnification, so I put a 0.5x Barrow lens.  It's about perfect in terms of visibility and ability to put in soldering irons.  It is also nice because the optical element is somewhat shielded from heat.
