Title: "Jim Williams" style simple digital clock
Post by: CodyShaw on April 28, 2014, 01:25:35 pm
Hey all,

I just finished up a little project I've been working on yesterday. I thought you guys might like to see it!

It's a simple digital clock in the style of something you would see on Jim Williams desk. I really like the look of such designs, so I decided to make something like that.

The next step will be to encase the clock in epoxy resin as to electrically isolate the clock and make it look completely badass!

Questions and critiques are welcome.

Simpler to just get some clear acrylic sheet cut and make up a cube to hold it using acrylic glue. Will look transparent, and if you want you can fill it with silicone oil and plastic flakes to make a snowball effect.

I was going to post the same exact thing with the Acrylic sheet.  One thing on the design.  If you use AC in from a wall wart transformer and rectify inside, it would require embedding a electrolytic.  However, it would allow you to use the power grid frequency, which has to be very accurate over time.  Probably much more so than an RTC.

This is a possibility, I was going to do something along the lines of this: http://runawaybrainz.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/audio-crystal-cmoy-freeform-headphone.html (http://runawaybrainz.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/audio-crystal-cmoy-freeform-headphone.html)

It's already made with an RTC, using the mains frequency as the clock would probably have been more "Jim Williams"y as well.
