I know this is a little bit of a stretch for topics in the forum but I think a lot of you might find this interesting.
It is 1 hour and covers the testing of nuclear explosions in space in the 1950's and 1960's.
I am embarrassed to admit it but until a few years ago I had no idea we had done this.
Nukes In Space - The Rainbow Bombs (narrated by William Shatner) [Full Length] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OS8kNn_2Ro#)]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OS8kNn_2Ro

Driven by a lot of paranoia, no doubt. And let's not forget the lovely people willing to send off these devices.
-
That's a really interesting documentary. These tests actually destroyed the first telecommunications satelite (Telstar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telstar#In_service)) because it wasn't hardened enough.
Have you seen the ones about Operation Plowshare (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Plowshare)? A lot of the old videos about the US nuclear program was declassified in the late 90's, some of them explain the testing routines they used to make design standards for everything from electronics to bomb shelters by exposing them to live nuclear bombs (in the atmosphere in mainland USA or some poor pacific islands).
Plowshare Program - American Atomic Bomb Tests For Industrial Applications - WDTVLIVE42 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUr7EVc44f8#)
It's really strange to see the paranoia and technology from that age, I can imagine that many of the older ones in here grew up with it, I only remember a bit from the end.
Some of that paranoia shows through in our electronics club which is in an old, decommissioned bomb shelter at the college which was a requirement when they built the place. We have two layers of heavy blast doors (with an airlock between them), a shower to get rid of particles, emergency communications, four levels of lighting for "Peace, Readiness, War and Emergency" levels, where the emergency lights run off a 24V battery bank. The air can be filtered through two blast-proofed air filters with protection against nuclear and chemical agents. I considered buying some gas masks to make the place look just a bit more cozy :P
It's not strange that being told and shown you required this level of security made people paranoid... :wtf:

Here is another interesting one.
Smallest "known" nuclear weapon.
The W54.
10.75 inches in diameter by 15.7 inches long. weight of 50 lbs. Yield selectable from 10 tons to 250 tons. (corrected).
Units were produced starting in 1961.
What's impressive to me is the was achieved in just 15 years from the first nuclear weapon.

It's amazing what money and the scare of (insert enemy name) can accomplish.
The W54 Davy Crocketts were something that sounds as crazy as a close combat support nuclear weapon system, the launchers had a range ~2 miles or thereabouts, which is a bit too close for comfort for my taste :o
These tests led to a lot of good too, like advances in computers and radars. This is an interesting documentary about the Sage system. Some of this trickled down over to civilian uses too. this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06drBN8nlWg#)

Oh, thanks, I haven't seen this. I'm a bit of a nuclear history buff.

There's very much to study out there indeed. The documentary "Atomic journeys" is also very interesting, but it doesn't go very in-depth for each test. Some of these videos were documentary while others were clear propaganda, not had to tell which is which :-P
Oh, thanks, I haven't seen this. I'm a bit of a nuclear history buff.
Have you seen "On the beach (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0219224/?ref_=nv_sr_2)" then? It's the best Australian movie I've seen so far I think, although it's fiction, it does show lots of the thought patterns of people back in the days.

Smallest nukes are so called suitcase-nukes or mini-nukes. Their minimum selectable TNT yield is 10 t (0.01 kt).

We have two layers of heavy blast doors (with an airlock between them), a shower to get rid of particles, emergency communications,
I've been to four soviet nuclear shelters so far. The most crude was on a decommissioned airport. It was "in a hill" basically the entrance was 50-100m of 80 cm x 160 cm tunnel, left turn, same length tunnel. Really claustrophobic, dark, scary place. The door was something 5 cm thick joke, it was probably to keep wildlife out. The whole place was ripped from anything movable in '89.
An other one was in a basement in downtown Budapest. Right now it operates as a disco.

We were not really worried about nuclear attack, more the very real terrorist attacks that happened. There mortar proof shelters, ground covered bunkers and proofing against aerial bombing ( never knew if the USA or USSR might decide we were a threat like the USA did with Saddam) by misdirection and massive concrete structures to protect.

We are close neighbours to the USSR, and a NATO country, so it was a bit different here I suppose. In the terraced housing I grew up in every second housing unit (of 5 apartments) had a shelter beneath it, and you can still see them everywhere if you just look for them. We used them for LAN parties ;D

...
I was a teenager in the 80s in West-Europe and at that time as kids we were convinced the bom was going to be dropped. You can hear that fear back in the music of that era.
In 87 I did military service in Germany as 19 year old when the Cold war was still a fact. Including a 14 day guarding nuclear site. All very real at that time.
So it was quite strange and an emotional relieve to me when I went to work 2 years in Russia in 2010. If you've lived with the fear it is a big deal that you can walk freely in Moscow and make friends over there.

Yes now that the things have changed you do find the other side is just as human as you. Now literally neighbours. Compared notes a few times and both of us were at the same places at the same times. Thank goodness both sides were generally such lousy shots. Some would have had a hard time hitting the side of a barn if they were inside and the doors were closed.

this is the best nuclear war "film" ever
it is a cute little film of people being super calm while waging nuclear war (before missiles)
USAF Nuclear War Alert Simulation - 1958. Part 3 of 6 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THdrTEbXWqc#)
"we will have to give the soviets credits for picking this place"
hahaha :palm:
i guess that they should allow smoking in the work place if it can keep the people this calm.... :-+

I was quite good at aiming, but that would only matter for a few hours. Expected lifespan once deployed for my artillery canoneer role was less than 3 hours in combat.

"Duck and cover!"
That phrase is priceless and would've been quite useless all the same.

I wonder if Dave would mind a "DIY selectable yield nuclear device" thread under Projects, Designs and technical stuff :-DD
EDIT: of course its meant to be "adjustable", or better yet, "adjustible" !

I've always fancied making a scale model of the Teller-Ulam design using my empty disposable CO2 "Sparklets" cartridges. I hate throwing them away.
In my teenage years I would make pretty good explosives and missiles using home made gun-cotton, gunpowder, or accelerants and stuffing them in a CO2 cylinder. Sadly this form of entertainment would lead to me being sent to 'Gitmo as some form of terrorist rather than a curious kid who wasn't allowed to learn chemistry in school so had to DIY.
Anyway, making the 1:10000 scale model of the physics package, fuse, uranium tamper, etc all packed in polystyrene inside a sparklets cylinder would be cool! :-+

Project Argus
Right... we need MORE nukes to protect against the dangers of too many nukes. Sounds familiar :-(
-
I know its not the case, BUT...... What if the whole thing was fake and all those warheads actually just had lead inside.... Sounds like the premise of a off beat mid 60's comedy. Think strange love or the mouse that roared.
-
AFAIK a few did have dummy warheads installed as the originals were taken out in rotation for service, and often there would be an ECM warhead installed that consisted of multiple small cones designed to have the same rate of descent as the real warhead to act as decoys for confusing countermissile batteries. As the warheads have a very finite service life before needing refurbishing, the electronics and batteries needed regular replacement and the Tritium neutron trigger needed regular replacement, to guarantee the unit would work according to design. From what I read the USSR designed ones had a 6 month life before service, and the electronics were not exactly reliable or radiation hardened too much.
The estimates were that at least half would fail to hit the target due to vehicle or guidance failures, but enough would get through.
as has been said before, you do not worry much about the people with the most warheads, you worry about the guy who just wants one.
-
When I was doing my service, the site that we were guarding was being dismantled. The heads were transported to another location with helicopters. Always 3 helicopters at the same time. It was known that only a subset of the helicopters were actually transporting a warhead although at each trip each of them was being loaded. But none of us knew how many or which ones - even not the helicopter crews.
-
How are they doing testing of new warheads now, given that they are unable to do practical tests? Only simulations, or live fire with only the chemical explosives? Most of the old systems that they have been able to test with live firing are getting seriously old by now..
We have a lot of Thorium where I live (one of the largest deposits in the world), but it's not being used for anything at all now, as nuclear reactors are banned in Norway, with the exception of one facility with test reactors.
-
but until a few years ago I had no idea we had done this.
me too.
And I bet none of you knew the US used a small neutron bomb at Baghdad Airport, during the final stages of Gulf War II.
It's an interesting story. Quite definitely established, though zero chance of any public admission, ever.
Possibly also a couple of tactical nukes at Tora Bora, though there the evidence is iffy.
-

Yes, and it's a very major problem for all the nuclear powers. They don't have an easy and cheap solution, so I eventually expect one of the biggies to start testing again.

-
The obnly testing is of the explosive imploders, by removing the Uranium or Plutonium insides and replacing with a lead alloy then detonating and seeing how the compression worked, giving a higher confidence the rest still work.
Serious problem is the cores are all now in need of replacement with new ones, as the material has degraded to being close to useless, and you need to reprocess them and recast.

There you go. 3 MB zip file of archived stuff. Enjoy. Though I am sure you won't even dl it, let alone look through it.
Summary:
During the 2nd Gulf war the Russians were having a chortle in being the only uncensored channel of day by day tactical battle reporting. Quite a change for them. The group publishing the reports was called Ramzaj, but was apparently connected to the GRU (Russian military signals intelligence.) They posted on www.aeronautics.ru (http://www.aeronautics.ru) and later on iraqwar.mirror-world.ru
It was very interesting reading. All their reports and more are in that zip.
At the point when US forces reached the airport and MSM were reporting they held the airport, Ramzaj suddenly announced they could no longer continue reporting. On the grounds that now they had a quandary - they had been reporting truth, but now they could not, since they were not entitled to report state secrets. They chose to cease rather than lie.
Many people, myself included, wondered what was the big secret?
It turned out, from many and varied sources, that what had happened was this:
A large US armored group reached the airport, with minimal opposition. But it was a trap. There was a very large group of heavily armed Iragi Guard entrenched at the airport, complete with tunnels and booby trapped buildings. The US force lost most of their armor in an intense battle, and survivors holed up in the terminal buildings. Many of them were then killed by surprises like petrol being sprayed in the buildings from prepared piping. The battle continued, but the US forces were cut off and down to a fraction. And the Iraqis had many thousand troops in the fight.
It's US battlefield policy, to use nukes if there's a surprising setback, and the potential target is juicy.
They let off one small neutron bomb over the airport. Killing their own remaining troops and thousands of Republican Guard.
Many people in Baghdad reported a bright flash in the sky over the airport. Electricity supply went out at that time. The airport was then left vacant for months. After which the US removed all the topsoil from the area and trucked it away. Some involved in that operation later died of undisclosed illnesses. There was much more too.
You're basing your insult on having never heard of this on US TV? Ha ha ha....
And now the eevblog mods will delete this, as 'off topic' while leaving the rest of the thread which is about little known use of nukes. Never mind, I don't really care.

Dave can't handle the truth apparently.
the military has a lot of time on their hands to re-write history, and if you've been paying attention to obama-putin politics.. you'd understand both of them are puppets on strings and its no supprise both sides are writing disinformation pieces to cover up eachother's shit.
the real deception is going to be the alien gods returning home to roost here in the near future.

All that's missing from your post are the 'smileys' to show that you're joking.
Let's get back to the subject in hand - the discussion of real nuclear weapons, not made up ones. :)

Dave can't handle the truth apparently.
An atheist that can't handle the truth? That's a new one :-DD
TerraHertz made a huge claim and then tried to back it with a pretty poor excuse for evidence. In fact, the source pointed to seem to have been admittedly fabricated, I found that in my first google on the topic.
Being an intelligent inquisitive human, I'm a skeptic, I expect all claims to be backed by suitable evidence. And as Carl Sagan said, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Ha. As opposed to one post on Irish Indymedia, which surely must be 100% true.
Did you actually read:
"Our updates were not genuine materials from any of Russian or other special services, but rather an “intellectual product” of the group itself, product of its operative, informational and analytical abilities. But compiling the updates we used materials available from our friends from special information structures. The very form “operativnaya informatsiya” never claimed to be “military information updates” but served as additional data for self-dependent analysis."
Some commenter: In other words: They made it all up.....
as Ramzaj saying they made it up? That's very poor, even for someone who's repeatedly demonstrated unwillingness to even consider anything that doesn't fit their established worldview.
Also they never said they were connected to GRU, that was merely other's guesses. And incidentally, it fit with their action in terminating reporting. An independent group would have been happy to publish that news. But no entity with any official Russian connection could afford to, due to the very awkward diplomatic situation in which Russia would then find itself.
Anyway, if you'd actually read what i wrote, I wasn't basing the Baghdad neutron bomb claim on anything Ramzaj wrote. It was merely that they suddenly stopped reporting, with an intriguing statement about why they could not continue, that made me pay attention to many other small details that leaked out subsequently. Not all of them are in that zip. I wasn't being terribly fastidious about saving everything. Not my problem.
As for Ramzaj's general accuracy, I was reading their reports day to day along with many other sources, and their information was far more detailed, and better fitted development of the ground situation than any other source. By miles.
Anyway, who cares. In the world you see, such things can't happen. There are many other far worse things that you don't see either. Btw, have you been thinking any more about that 'real structure of the money supply' video? Bothered to look into the matter any further, and considered what it *means* if that stuff is true? (Which it is btw.)
No, I didn't think so. Too difficult huh? Better just drop it.
Incidentally, The US came within hours of nuking a city in the Georgian war too, intending to claim the Russians did it. Classic false flag. But the Russians got wind of it in time, and managed to prevent it. I don't know much of that details, just enough to be pretty sure it nearly happened. No, I'm not interested in arguing it, or telling you how I know.
-
No, I'm not interested in arguing it, or telling you how I know.
Then don't waste our time with your unproven bullshit.
-
Yes, and it's a very major problem for all the nuclear powers. They don't have an easy and cheap solution, so I eventually expect one of the biggies to start testing again.
That wouldn't suprise me the least, at least not from the eastern block countries. I imagine resistance would be a lot higher in for example Britain and US at the moment.
The obnly testing is of the explosive imploders, by removing the Uranium or Plutonium insides and replacing with a lead alloy then detonating and seeing how the compression worked, giving a higher confidence the rest still work.
Sounds like a decent way of testing it, but I'd think "high confidence" is generally not what you look for in such weapons, they are probably more in the lines of "close to absolute confidence" as long as the strategy is strategical strikes. If they go for lobbing a few 100 of them at once then "high confidence" that most of them would detonate would probably be ok though...
-
Anyway, who cares. In the world you see, such things can't happen.
Rubbish, did I ever say that?
All I ever ask for is evidence for extraordinary claims. I'd rank the US using a neutron bomb on their own troops as a pretty darn extraordinary claim.
Btw, have you been thinking any more about that 'real structure of the money supply' video? Bothered to look into the matter any further, and considered what it *means* if that stuff is true?
Yes, I looked at few other related things.
No, I didn't think so. Too difficult huh? Better just drop it.
Get real. There are countless things in this world, and I could spend the rest of my life only thoroughly researching a dozen of them. Yet you think that if I don't throughout investigate your pet conspiracy theory, then I must be someone who just ignores "the truth"? :palm:
I don't know much of that details, just enough to be pretty sure it nearly happened. No, I'm not interested in arguing it, or telling you how I know.

Ah, come on, guys! Play nice!
I believe that most of the contributors at these discussion boards are educated and civilised people, trying to share their knowledge, views and discoveries with everyone else.
It is a fact that proofs are the first victims of every conspiracy (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/another-buzz-of-nuclear-weapon-and-america-general-discussion/msg106461/#msg106461); ALWAYS. Citing George Carlin on conspiracies (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/another-buzz-of-nuclear-weapon-and-america-general-discussion/msg106548/#msg106548), "Something that shouldn't even be entertained for a minute, that powerful people might get together and have a plan. DOESN'T HAPPEN!"
Well, let me give you a piece of very specific information that only quite a few individuals can verify:
Most of the people recognise the following thirteen banking families as the world rulers: The Rothschild, Rockefeller, Morgan, Warburg, Schiff, Lehman, Lazard, Harriman, Schroder, Gould, Worms, Israel Moses Seif, and the Li families. BUT, who has even heard of the REAL string pullers, the REAL big kahunas, those who actually pull the strings of these thirteen massive string pullers recited above? Who are the ones I am referring to?
You can search for 'The Arcane Arcanorum Atlantis' or 'The Council of Ten' (or The Council of The Ten Gray Archons) and you will find the thirteen Zoroastrian Bloodlines who form The Saturnalian Brotherhood, which exists since the mythical city-state of Atlantis and re-established their world domination in Venice, right after the fall of Rome and the move of the empire capital to New Rome (or Constantinopolis), where they invented Christianity to divide and conquer:
- The House of Aldobrandini
- The House of Borja
- The House of Breakspeare
- The House of Chigi
- The House of Conti
- The House of Colonna
- The House of Este
- The House of Farnese
- The House of Gaetani
- The House of Medici
- The House of Orsini
- The House of Pamphili
- The House of Somaglia
More specifically, The Ptolemaic Papal bloodlines (with the Grey, the Black and the White Popes, all of them cited in the order of their true hierarchy; for example, Pepe Orsini is the Grey Pope and Adolfo Nicolas is the Black Pope (and the General of the Jesuits, also), today, all being Jesuits, with Don Juan Carlos (the king of Spain) being second in the Jesuit order, right after the Black Pope; the masses, of course, are only allowed a fraction of the knowledge about the 'White' Pope) all belong to the five following major families that have arranged to be cycling through power:
- The Aldobrandini,
- The Breakspear,
- The Farnese,
- The Orsini and
- The Somaglia.
For those who follow the Jet-Set, whom is David Rothschild (junior) married to? I am talking about David Mayer de Rothschild, whom the media have been struggling to sell to the public as 'the messiah' and who, since 2012, should be ruling that 'one world government' they have tried so hard to create for centuries. The correct answer is, to Maria Aldobrandini, with that marriage being one of their most powerful forces they have created... Now, whom is David Rothschild senior married to? Again, to Olympia Aldobrandini, is the correct answer, for those who try to connect the dots.
Going through the other families in a very fast pace, four of the thirteen Houses have moved to China and India. The Borjas organised the Jesuit order, making them such an invincible militant force they still are. The Aldobrandinis control and command the royal couple of England (that couple is NOT the so-called 'Crown'; 'The Crown' actually is '[The Corporation of ]The City[ of London]'). The Aldobrandinis also control the income from the tribute all 'the colonies' are forced to be paying via the taxation of their own subjects (through IRS in the US, for example). The Breakspears, who command the Dragons of the Far East, managed to loot the Asian countries' gold during the last hundred years, since they moved from their mansions in Venice and in Rome to Macao in Hong Kong, two centuries ago.
Epitomising, there is a triangle of power, with the Gray Pope on top. Below him is The Council of Ten (that refers to the Ten Houses of Atlantis) that appoints and controls the Black Pope and controls the Jesuit Order. Right below stands the regular (the White) Pope. Below this triangle of power stand side by side The Committee of 33 (or The Freemasonic Committee) with The Lodge of The Knights of Malta (with The Garden of Zion). Below that, three sister organisations stand: The Scull and Bones Society (in the US), The Pilgrim Society (in England) and the widely known Opus Dei. Right below, The Bohemian Club, the CFR and the Bilderberg Club follow. Below that level stand The Trilateral Commission (in the US) and The Ditchley Foundation (in England) and The Mont Pelerin Society (in Switzerland) for 'hoi oligoi' and The Club of Rome for the masses, the 'hoi polloi.' Before we hit the base of this pyramis of power, we have The Hoover Institute, The Atlantic Council (NATO), the CED (Committee for Economic Development) and the Aspen Institute (in Washington, D.C.). At the lowest ranks of the pyramid lie the so-called 'think-tanks' as The Hudson Institute, The Brookings Institute, The RAND Corporation and The American Enterprise Institute, where the political world gets entangled in the corporate world, or what is being called the MIC (Military Industrial Complex) in the US; this is the point where every other 'humanitarian' organisation comes into play... At this same, last rank of the pyramid lies also another 'Institute' that handles strategic and international crises, where in 1974 the international criminals Kissinger, Brzezinski, Soros, Papandreou and Karamanlis designed the balkanisation of Greece, Cyprus and Turkey.
Why are the above sound to be so unfamiliar and have absolutely nothing to do with whatever you think you might know of? That is because every single educational institution as well as every publishing house along with the Media in global scale are all being financed (or shut down) by those thirteen families, via economic or political control. They wage all their wars by way of deception, as a standard practice. And, a note for those who might rush to misinterpret my words, no, they are NOT 'the Jews'; they are other creatures that existed way before the appearance of the ancient Judean people, and they think of the Jewish people as their enemies too.
Now, the following piece of information is easily verifiable, yet it is not part of common knowledge; not even over here, in Hellas:
Would you like to see a sample of their racist ways against the people of a certain ethnicity (who are the descendants of the nation that won the Battle of Atlantis against them) who survive today and 'need to be eliminated' in order for them to prevail by obliterating their only real competition? Enjoy some facts I have posted elsewhere (http://www.avrfreaks.net/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=1121929&sid=30243466dfc74ce15855c9ac6a9de99e#1121929):
According to Sculpture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sculpture), there are three types of human feet (by inheritance means, via the Y-chromosome of the father):
Sculpture: The Agyptian Foot, the Roman Foot and the Greek Foot.
Let's discuss the third foot type above, the Greek Foot. While Sculpture calls this DNA inheritance speciality the Greek Foot, some people in Medicine (some of those people who edit History and distort Reality) dared to call it a 'musculoskeletal dysfunction' under the name Morton's toe.
Even (the highly biased in sensitive matters) Wikipedia confirms this Greek DNA inheritance speciality (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_Foot), which some 'scientists' (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/older-engineers/msg288003/#msg288003) have called a 'musculoskeletal dysfunction,' a freaking slip of Nature; even though this specific 'dysfunction' is present as an aesthetical standard at all the ancient Greek sculptures as well as in the Renaissance art too, or even at the freaking Statue of Liberty! A DNA inheritance that, being transferred by the father Y-chromosome only, is specific to a people of a certain ethnicity.
Of course, this is not only a physical body structure distinction; it is also a cultural one: Just see who are the ones that speak about their 'fatherland' («???????» from ?????: father) and who are the others that speak about their 'motherland'!
Visiting the Wikipedia article above, someone will notice that the Roman Foot is not mentioned at all (which means that the people they perceive as their enemy is very specific), while the Egyptian Foot seems to be acknowledged as the standard in human feet.
Just like the very same people have established the mutilation under the name Circumcision (http://board.freedomainradio.com/topic/36819-the-truth-about-circumcision/#entry337072) as the ...Hygiene Standard for all the human male only mammals! Yea right, I've heard that one before.

OK I have Roman feet, but what does that mean?
-
Yea right, I've heard that one before.
Then I guess that you must be better informed than our average fellow man, who has been conditioned to be waiting for other, heavily controlled entities to 'inform' them.
__________
OK I have Roman feet, but what does that mean?
It means absolutely nothing more than this is the gene your father passed on to you, and this is what you will pass on to your own children; and that your origins are more Hellenic that anything else! It might help to seek the Roman people origins history (or mythology, to be precise) by reading Virgil's Aeneid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgil#The_Aeneid) and the Homeric (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/ot-the-religion-thead/msg112434/#msg112434) epic works he was inspired from, Iliad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iliad) and Odyssey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odyssey). A hint: Aeneas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aineas), a man of royal Trojan descent, fled Troy with his family and his attendants after the fall of the city and, after a long journey he settled in the place that was later called the city of Rome. And, since Trojans were Greeks themselves (they did not need any translators to talk to each other in battle), so Aeneas was.
Do not forget that the term Myth (Mythos or Mytheuma) does not really mean a lie, as we all have been told by those who edit History; it means the passing of the information by oral means, by speech, when writing was not yet available. On the other hand, my language has a special term for the narrated lie, or for the false myth: Paramythos, which consists of the preposition 'para-' (= next to, from, than, despite, false) + 'mythos'!
--I am sorry about the greeklish but the board software does not seem to support the Greek characters, for a long time...
I was always fascinated to be reading and studying our forefathers' lives, spirit and works!

By the way:
Let's see what will they do now, with their weapon [of mass destruction] called FED having got expired in 22 December 2013 after the 100 years contract their puppet called FDR ratified in the midnight of 23 December 1013...
Well, my information sources insist that the new government-issued and debt-free Dollar has already been printed and it will probably be quite similar to the FED-issued Dollar; but its colour will be orange instead of green. The hundred-dollar bill, for example, will probably still be depicting Benjamin Franklin but it will be in orange and black colours. I am not sure what the inscription on it will be: Will it still be reading to be a (Legal) Tender or a Certificate (of something of concrete value)? It is also said that FED will be cooperating with the government for a six months period time, in order for the transition from the old currency to the new one to be smooth.
I am fairly sure that we will find this out really soon. :)

KT
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W48 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W48) The w48 is much smaller, its just a 155mm artillery shell. The dial-a-yield thing is really just adjusting the efficiency of the bomb, not the yield. The davy crocket set to a 10 ton yield is really just a massive dirty bomb. While the high yield setting is a much cleaner and more efficient detonation.
-
How are they doing testing of new warheads now, given that they are unable to do practical tests? Only simulations, or live fire with only the chemical explosives? Most of the old systems that they have been able to test with live firing are getting seriously old by now..
Yes, and it's a very major problem for all the nuclear powers. They don't have an easy and cheap solution, so I eventually expect one of the biggies to start testing again.
Why not put a list of the pacific islands on the wall and wear a blindfold and point at on at random?
-
Thanks smashedproton.
That's my bad. I thought the W54 was the smallest.
Even more impressive is the W48 you point out.

Regarding Occam's Razor, I think that you will agree in that, though it was sufficient enough to be 'shaving' any fourteenth century questionings or fallacies, it gets really hopeless against the modern disorientation tactics like the infamous and widespread used Hegelian Dialectic (the Thesis-Antithesis-Synthesis method, better known to the public as 'problem-reaction-solution').
In my opinion, Occam's Razor, is the modern excuse for anyone who is comfortable with their beliefs to allow the possibility of another proposition; it is a perfectly justified way to keep the mind closed.
So, thanks, but no thanks...
Now, which exactly of the claims you have quoted above, or the course taken, do you think as wrong?
Do you think you have detected any problems in the message or in the messenger? Or, maybe, in both?
In your personal opinion, is it so unhealthy for someone to be thinking independently instead of thinking as they have been conditioned to?
Your message raised a lot of questions; but I will acknowledge that the material is off-topic.

Declassified U.S. Nuclear Test Film #32 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nv_q8q6Z9_I#)
Declassified U.S. Nuclear Test Film #32 (Davy Crockett nuclear artillery shell firing exercise)
Ha ha... the 'decontaminating' straw brooms. Why didn't TEPCO think of that?
The father of a guy I worked with was one one of the designers of US nuclear artillery shells. Biggest problem: One of the pits was donut shaped, and during cannon firing and the rapid spinning up of the shell, the pit tended to rotate relatively to the casing, and precess on the rod that fitted with close tolerance through the donut's cylindrical hole. This made the yield randomly less than optimal.

Also google 'backpack nuke' - there are many articles and pics. For instance:

A Hellene, that was well written, and it seems you've dug further into the dungheap than I have. But it's probably mostly wasted here. Intellectually there are two classes of people: those who understand the realistic continuum of information verifiability, and that in the political realm there's no such thing as 100% proof, unlike repeatable controlled experiments can provide. So we have to just acquire all available information, keeping each item tagged with whatever can be found out about its origins, then do our best to personally integrate it all into a best fit. While being ready to ditch any theory as better information comes to hand, and bearing in mind the motivations of those behind particular sources, which may be lies.
Then there are those who are certain they know what's right, and anything which doesn't fit what they know, must be garbage and is discarded from any further consideration. Generally with derision and insults, since that's the best they can muster.
-
A Hellene, that was well written, and it seems you've dug further into the dungheap than I have. But it's probably mostly wasted here.
Don't forget that many people simply don't give a shit about that which you might think is important. And don't confuse that with ignorance, closed mindedness etc
So we have to just acquire all available information, keeping each item tagged with whatever can be found out about its origins, then do our best to personally integrate it all into a best fit. While being ready to ditch any theory as better information comes to hand, and bearing in mind the motivations of those behind particular sources, which may be lies.
So why don't you go investigate that claim that your mysterious anonymous russian source was made up?
-
Anyway, who cares. In the world you see, such things can't happen.
Rubbish, did I ever say that?
When someone says "Got anything better as proof than some archived html and text files from a now nonexsistent anonymous informant blog website that has supposedly admitted they made it all up anyway?"
it does tend to imply they are outright dismissing the idea. It's things like stringing together a series of derogatory (and inaccurate) words like "now nonexsistent anonymous informant blog website" that make your position clear.
That site is currently down, probably due to either an equipment failure or DOS attack. It often is. Their DNS1 is down too, but DNS2 is up. It's actually a news aggregator site, with any member allowed to post. Each article allows uncensored comments by all members. Members are allowed pseudonyms, just as with eevblog. There is no element of editorial blogging at iraq-war.ru. You could have looked at archive.org snapshots of the site if you wanted to know how it works. I wonder why you're so rabidly hating on it? Something to do with the generally anti-Zionist consensus there perhaps? Or what?
Secondly, although that 3MB zip is just a pack of badly organized saves, there's a lot more there than "some archived html and text files". So, it would take some effort to read through. But that doesn't justify your insulting dismissal before having put in that effort, just because you never saw any previous mention of the Baghdad nuke. Tell me, would you seriously expect there to be any MSM mention of that? Are you kidding me?
All I ever ask for is evidence for extraordinary claims. I'd rank the US using a neutron bomb on their own troops as a pretty darn extraordinary claim.
Yes, I agree it's extraordinary. And for precisely that reason there will probably never be what you'd accept as 'proof'. The whole idea is so outrageous and chilling that it would be completely unacceptable at an emotional level to the majority of Americans. Similarly to anyone in other countries who is not fully aware of the deeply evil nature of the US regime, as it has existed for many decades.
I too find it sickening. But I don't allow myself to be diverted by emotional factors. I was searching for an explanation of several mysteries surrounding the taking of Baghdad airport, the Ramzaj abrupt termination among them. What I found led to that conclusion.
*Most* of the information is in that file, though I notice there's two categories of related details that are missing. One was the whole issue of US govt reporting of casualties throughout the conflict and later years of conflict with the Iraqi Resistance. The US was clearly proven to be dramatically under-reporting their own casualties, via a variety of means. That stuff I have, but too voluminous and not relevant enough to include. It just demonstrated that they lied a lot. (Not to mention all the US official justifications for the war being complete fabrications.)
The other was some posts by a retired US military guy, pulling together some other MSM news items that demonstrated something very tragic happened then. One was of a US colonel in front of a camera reading a public release about the airport being taken, while crying uncontrollably. Little details like that. But I can't find that stuff now.
I mentioned that one because it's core. If you actually do ever delve into it, your current self-satisfied and complacent attitude cannot survive. I won't call you a slave, because you're probably and deservedly doing quite well with eevblog. But most people really are enslaved, by a financial/economic and informational system that is deliberately designed to keep the majority enslaved, ignorant and powerless. You've broken out of the financial straightjacket, but not yet the informational constraints. Part of that is a conditioned, reflexive violent rejection of ideas that don't fit your view of how the world works. That response is carefully programmed into people by the current media structures.
Yet you think that if I don't throughout investigate your pet conspiracy theory, then I must be someone who just ignores "the truth"? :palm:
It doesn't concern me whether you bother to investigate the Baghdad neutron bomb story or not. You're free to investigate, or ignore it. What does get a response from me is when you insult me for mentioning it, without making any effort yourself to investigate. That's quite poor behavior.
Btw, here's a relevant example. I've been going on since April 2011 about how the Fukushima #3 building explosion exhibited three distinct large audible bangs, the media suppressed that detail almost immediately, and the blast debris column and wreckage geometry is not consistent with the official explanation ("Just a hydrogen explosion, nothing else".)
Massive silence on this detail in the MSM. What you'd call a 'lack of proof'. (Unless you were willing to view the archived video yourself, and think about it on your own initiative.) Plenty of subsequent wacky well-poisoning web disinformation theories about #3 reactor pressure vessel exploding though, which is interesting since the building wreckage clearly shows that didn't happen.
So it's amusing to see the 'three bangs' finally getting some attention:
http://enenews.com/engineer-6-experts-nuclear-explosion-reactor-possible-nrc-fukushima-unit-3-explosion-3-loud-bangs-larger-unit-1-blast-tokyo-professors-presentation-adds-question-mark-hydrogen-explosion-reactor (http://enenews.com/engineer-6-experts-nuclear-explosion-reactor-possible-nrc-fukushima-unit-3-explosion-3-loud-bangs-larger-unit-1-blast-tokyo-professors-presentation-adds-question-mark-hydrogen-explosion-reactor)
My crazy unsubstantiated rantings are here: http://everist.org/Fukushima/20120430_Message_of_Fuku3.htm (http://everist.org/Fukushima/20120430_Message_of_Fuku3.htm)
Also: http://everist.org/Fukushima/comparison_preview6.png (http://everist.org/Fukushima/comparison_preview6.png)
Still the best-fitting theory imo. But won't be popular, because it's 'emotionally difficult' - especially for the global nuclear industry.
It's relevant to this thread, since we're talking about little known and unconventional nuclear explosions.
A 'firecracker-string' series of criticalities and resulting steam explosions in a SFP definitely qualifies.
For fun, here's a test of understanding of nuclear explosion effects. The photo below is a high speed image of the early stages of an airburst nuclear explosion. Without googling, who knows what formed the projections below the sphere?

If a neutron bomb was ever detonated on the surface of the earth every ham radio operator and radio listener would know as the ionosphere would ring at 8HZ a distinctive sound for a while. Also all of the electronics for miles and miles would be destroyed.

When someone says "Got anything better as proof than some archived html and text files from a now nonexsistent anonymous informant blog website that has supposedly admitted they made it all up anyway?"
it does tend to imply they are outright dismissing the idea.
Don't confuse regular scepticism for being close minded and outright dismissing the idea.
Look, you are you the one making a pretty outrageous claim, so naturally I'm sceptical and would like to see some good evidence for it.
At first glance I found the evidence very lacking, and quick google gave me even more cause to be even more sceptical.
I wonder why you're so rabidly hating on it? Something to do with the generally anti-Zionist consensus there perhaps? Or what?
Once again, you are confusing general scepticism for something more. It is not.
But that doesn't justify your insulting dismissal before having put in that effort
No insult inplied.
YOU made the claim, you are the one who has to try and back it up.
I have reason to find your evidence lacking.
Yes, I agree it's extraordinary.
So all the more reason for people to be sceptical of such a claim. And you somehow find people not buying into it so easily surprising? :palm:
That's the end of this discourse for me, thanks.

So why don't you go investigate that claim that your mysterious anonymous russian source was made up?
Sounds like "Sorcha Faal" has struck again... :-DD

I think this is why he got off scot-free. He played a masterstroke of conveying what his leaders told him to on pain of death, but so absurd in the extreme that the rest of the world could only laugh at a foregone conclusion! It was hilarious at the time and everyone loved to see the Iraqi Information Minister on TV.

Cool, right up until you hear the black helicopters hovering outside.

If a neutron bomb was ever detonated on the surface of the earth every ham radio operator and radio listener would know as the ionosphere would ring at 8HZ a distinctive sound for a while. Also all of the electronics for miles and miles would be destroyed.
Besides which, during the last days of Gulf War 2, this guy was at Baghdad airport telling the world how the invaders would burn in their tanks and infrantry have bellies slit and shoes thrown at them, right up to the tanks rolling in...

Carl Bildt - Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs recently gave away 3.3 kg of plutonium to USA. Which was leftovers from the Swedish nuclear weapons programme.
Enjoy your new batch of plutonium, free of charge. :palm:

3.3kg, the exact amount of P239 required to make one nuclear warhead (was that a hint?).

Yes it was, but why send away everything. Even half the amount can be used for peaceful research & development for a long long time.

3.3kg of Plutonium, usable to make a whole new set of RTG generators for spacecraft when combined with the existing supply.

And no talk of EMPs in this thread? That would be the major threat from a nuclear weapon.
Depending on the height at which it is detonated, and of course the size, will determine what area the EMP covers. You detonate one 100 miles up and you could take out half the US east coast's electronics, to give an idea. Sure you can destroy a single city with a single weapon, but its much more efficient to simply wipe out capabilities with far less numbers of weapons.
Obviously, at this point its not the initial blast that is a problem, its the fact that refridgeration systems and various vehicles electronics to move food around have been destroyed as well as the pumping systems required to deliver fresh water. So, you have about 2-3 days before people truely start roving around trying to find food and water, if not sooner. This is how the next big war will likely end up going, who can fry the other country's electronics the fastest so as to start staving most of their population. I would say give us about 50-100 more years before we start really moving away from being this vulnerable.
Ever heard of an 'explosively pumped flux compression generator'? You could build one for a couple hundred $$ and take out a city worth of electronics. If terrorists were actually interested in hurting the US or any other given area, they could build one of these and take out wall street or something. Imagine the effect on the world markets of suddenly having all the computers of a financial trading center destroyed.

GAS. They said "gas." (Not "oil.") You know, the big huge ground-fart kind. (That's why the whole thing stinks!)
right up until you hear the black helicopters hovering outside.
The black helicopters frequently pass low overhead here... O0 (Thankfully, I'm inherently-stealthy.)
I kinda like the Kickstarter idea... But with a twist; the project should be a device that renders all politicians moot, all military leaders impotent, and all munitions inert... A "neutralizium bomb" or something like that. :-+
Uh-oh... here come the black helicopters again... BRB.

This made for a pretty interesting hour; I never knew the lengths both the US and Russia had gone to in their nuke pissing match; scary stuff.
Makes me wonder just how much damage they really did back then; surely the fallout at such altitudes over so many tests can't have been benign.

What fascinates me more than the atmosphere tests, etc, are the underground tests. They built mines underneath mountains and actually used physics to determine where to place all the blast doors and also allow super high speed cameras to film the underground explosion from the insane thick metal blast doors, but of course would be sacrificial.
It appears that North Korea are doing this but with pathetic massive fission bombs. They have loads of slave labour to dig the tunnels.

Setting off nuclear bombs at altitude is surprisingly "clean" - it is the most efficient way of detonating them and not leaving any fallout. Doing it at ground level is far less efficient in terms of killing everyone in its blast radius, and also leaves lots of nasty fallout to go downwind and spread over the globe.
I highly recommend blowing your own city up using NUKEMAP 3D (http://nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap3d/). To be realistic you can use 6 x W-88 warheads which is the currently allowed limit of the Trident SLBM (it can do 8 though not allowed by international bureaucracy). 6 x 455kt = 2.7 Mega Ton. It is FAR more efficient to spread those explosives at distant targets than all in one. The ridiculous Soviet Tsar Bomba 50MT device was just cock waving and a useless waste of plutonium.

3.3kg of Plutonium, usable to make a whole new set of RTG generators
Plutonium for bombs is not the same as plutonium for RTGs. It's a whole different isotope.
And the RTG version is in short supply, because most of its production was a side effect of weapons production, which has been much reduced.

What? You're confusing neutron bomb with EMP generating bombs.
And where do people get the idea that all nukes generate massive EMP pulses anyway? It's simply not true.
A standard nuke detonated near the upper boundary of the atmosphere can generate an EMP as the fireball intersects the atmosphere. But as for a fireball expanding fully in air - where's the cause for an EMP?
This is why EMP weapons are specifically designed for the purpose. They have to be.

Any nuke generates an extreme amount of ionizing radiation that can be heard by any radio receiver. Just the physical release of that many eV of energy causes chaos radiated chaos. EMP's are a specific type of pulse that will damage electronics by induced current. Ionizing radiation actually rings just like any other signal. When you put any amount of energy into the atmosphere (Such as the alleged neutron bomb in Iraq) the ionosphere rings in the ELF range. Its actually how we measure the intensity of certain types of lightning. That has harmonics all the way up that can be heard.

if Exxon, BP, Shell, Chevron, Total control wells around the world, they will pick the most economical distances to ship the oil to the USA, hence the USA will get more regional oil.
"Prior to the 2003 invasion and occupation of Iraq, US and other western oil companies were all but completely shut out of Iraq's oil market," oil industry analyst Antonia Juhasz told Al Jazeera. "But thanks to the invasion and occupation, the companies are now back inside Iraq and producing oil there for the first time since being forced out of the country in 1973."
who used to pump and who is pumping now in Libya, Sudan, Iraq, what were the royalties before and what are they now, and who made a deal with Syria for oil and gas exploration (while Al CIAduh sets them up for regime change) and who desperately wants to control the Iranian oil fields again and who wants Indian Ocean access to the Caspian Sea oil reserves, and who wants to overthrow the Venezuelan government (tried in 2002) to control oil again so as to lower the royalties that went up under Chavez that angered big oil.
Big OIL don't like Nationalized OIL.
today's wars (and regime changes) are all about oil
"The last thing the US cares about in the Middle East is democracy. It is about oil, full stop."
- Dr Abdulhay Yahya Zalloum
"Oil remains fundamentally a government business. While many regions of the world offer great oil opportunities, the Middle East with two thirds of the world's oil and the lowest cost, is still where the prize ultimately lies, even though companies are anxious for greater access there, progress continues to be slow." (1999) Dick Cheney.

:wtf:
It surprises me that you feel the paranoia is strange. We have the same paranoia today, just aimed at another target. Obviously, it does make a great political tool.

Replacing the Uranium with a lead alloy doesn't sound RoHS compliant :D

"Weapons Grade Plutonium" actually has a specific makeup, specifically a very tight upper limit on the percentage of PU240 (Which happens to be the isotope you use in RTGs).
Separating PU239 and PU240 is even harder then enriching Uranium, so a reactor designed as a plutonium producer is designed with a short fuel cycle (6 months is typical) and to run a relatively high mean neutron energy to minimise the production of PU240. Look at almost any 'commercial' reactor from the 50's thu to the 80's for designs of this type (And because nobody is investing in modern designs, we are still building these things).
The takeaway is that the way to destroy a weapons grade stockpile is to sling it back in a reactor and cook it for a year or so to build up the amount of PU240 (Making it near useless for a bomb) and the level of the short halflife actinides (To make it a nightmare to handle without very special equipment).
Both the physics and the history of these things is fascinating, just glad that so far only two have ever been used in anger.
Regards, Dan.
