Power Designs 6050C Display Mod
« on: October 23, 2014, 04:47:31 am »
Hi!  After working with my PDI 6050C for a while, the size of the 7-segment display kinda bugs me. If you contrast it with the display in the 6050D, it is about 20-30% smaller than the 6050D's display. So I decided to build a "drop-in" replacement display board, and here it is with obligatory pictures! If anyone is at all interested in this mod, I'd be willing to mail them a PCB. There was a slight screw up in my schematic which flipped the A & B segments, so if anyone is interested I'll run a set of updated boards.

Cheers!

Thanks!  I'm not very good with restorations yet, but this seemed to easy to pass up, and at the same time I like to think that the PDI guys would have done the same kind of thing had they been able to (in fact they must have, since they released the 6050D with the larger LED display later).

Very nicely done! Looks even better than the 6050D IMO.

The segments are a little too orange (I like the deep red of the 6050D and the original 6050C displays). But in terms of size, bigger is definitely easier to see! :)
