workbenches
« on: January 05, 2012, 10:21:02 am »
Hi all,
not sure if this should be posted in general area or not, I have an idea for another section that i think would be good to add to the forums. A section where people can post photos of their workspaces, I have seen daves video and it is pretty impresive, it would help give a beginner an idea on how other people set up their spaces and equipment and tools most people have, Just an idea to consider
thanks delta75

I like this one from the link. Exactly what I was looking for to keep my soldering station in since I don't have the space to keep things out.

I think I'm going to build a few of these and have different ones for different task and to hold tools. I might even use some regular deep cabinet drawers and make door.

I've got quite a few flukes which are hidden away, a hot air rework station which has been very useful, I bought that purely on the recommendation of one of daves videos but have never regretted it
I really need to sort my area out.

my personal rule is that if I ever need a part - I get at least 100 of them unless it's an expensive part of course.
the ATTEN 938D solder station is fantastic by the way, I only just got that and it is so much better than the others I've had.

I couldn't stand my workbench any more. I tried to do some work yesterday and had no room, so I spent a few hours today cleaning up.

Here's a before and after. Still need to find a home for some stuff, and decide where to put my most frequently used tools like screwdrivers, pliers etc.

The_Penguin, you and  I have the same Tandy/Radio Shack voltmeter, 50k ohm/v, with "Range Doubler". Don't use it much anymore, but I keep it because it was my very first meter. Am also keeping several RS books from the era, Transistor Projects 1 and 3 etc.

It was one of my first meters too, and a pretty good one.  I worked for Radio Shack from '76 to '79 back in the good days.
I actually have 3 of them, 2 working.
I couldn't find my original one, so got one off of ebay, but the meter movement didn't survive shipping.
Got a second off of ebay, then a while later found my dad's in a box of stuff while moving my mom to a new condo.
My first meter was my dad's old Heathkit, would love to have that one again, it was really bullet proof.

I have another Radio Shack DMM in the drawer too.

I'm guilty of owning a Tandy also, it's one of those precision gold ones,it was my first one in fact - if you had those where you are I'll post a pic
