Title: adding a time delay to ac transfer switch
Post by: michaelmrc on April 07, 2014, 02:19:08 pm
i have built a simple transfer switch for my rv with a 40 amp dpdt contactor relay to switch between my rv's generator and its inverter. problem im having is there seems to be a very slight switching delay which causes things like my computer to shut down during the switch. i would like to add some sort of time delay or buffer that would keep power to the load during the switch but im not sure where to begin. any suggestions? thanks everyone

Is it just the computer?  If so, the easiest (and probably the cheapest) solution is to put the computer on its own small UPS.  The UPS will switch fast enough to its internal inverter to avoid causing problems, and then switch back once the supply has stabilized.
