Adhesive for IDC connectors?
« on: August 21, 2019, 06:18:26 am »
Hi guys,

I need to vibration proof (or maybe shock proof) a device that uses several IDC connectors with flat cables ( similar to this: https://uk.farnell.com/multicomp/mc-254-10-00-00-idc/connector-rcpt-10pos-2row-2-54mm/dp/2843495 ), mated into the PCB through a classic counterpart (similar to: https://uk.farnell.com/hirose-hrs/hif3fc-20pa-2-54ds-71/connector-header-20pos-2row-2/dp/2724804 ).

My question is, what would you recommend to keep them in? Something like the adhesive used on tall electrolytic capacitors ( https://www.robotroom.com/Parts/Samsung-monitor-capacitors/Healthy-capacitor-with-flat-clean-top-and-flush-to-board.jpg )? Ideally something stocked at farnell that can be applied with a syringe (parts of the device are really really hard to get into with anything big.

Thanks,

David

Dow Corning 3145

Look for fabric tapes.
These are commonly used to keep ribbon cables secure in test equipment.

Use a latched IDC header.

Th latched idc is okay,  but sometimes you need to lock the latchs too,    small dab of sillicone on them ..
