As I have told you I have a bunch of PIC16F72 and this breakout hopefully broke all pins out in appropriate ways. I will spin a few of those boards (with my VoltCard Original) and if it worked I will open source it for you.

PICKit connector on the left, using straight pins up. Crystal on the right, I will probably use 16, 20 or 24MHz.

Would be a good idea to route the xtal tracks without the vias. It will still work, its just not best practice.

Well that works but breaks ground plane. I run GND on top and VCC on bottom.

You would be better with GND on the bottom, VCC and signals on top.

Used to do that until the ground vias drove me crazy. Now I am usually GND on top VCC on bottom.

Actually on this board I figured out a way to put GND on both sides and do a lot of GND via stitching, and extra thick power tracks.
