Allowable On/Off times vs. current for a multiplexed LED Display.

Hi

I have a 7- Segment LED Display (green). In the datasheet is noted:

max. Peak Forward Current 160mA

with a footnote that says: Dutycycle 1/10 max. on- time 0.1ms.

I have no problem understanding that spec for 1/10 Duty-Cycle, but what is if I only use a 1/4 Duty-Cycle and only 80mA max. current. Can I then increase the max. on time proportionally, so in this case half the max. peak current and double on-time (0.2ms)?
