Unknown Schematic Symbol
« on: July 28, 2016, 02:16:29 am »
I'm looking over a schematic and I don't know what this symbol means.  It seems to be the voltage clamp on a USB data line.  Can anyone tell me what it is?

It is simply a VDR, a voltage dependant resistor. De dependence can be positive  or negative, usually indicated bij a "+" or "-" sign near the diagonal line. In general a depndant resistor is represented by a diagonal line through the resitor symbol. What the dependence is can differ, can be voltage: V, temperature: T, light: L etc.

The example given has a wrong symbol. De numbers given actually specifies a zener diode or a "Transzorb" of 5V. Although its behaviour is voltage dependant it is not the same thing as a VDR.
