LNK306 based AC-DC converter does not work
« on: May 29, 2016, 04:32:07 pm »
I've been following the AN37 guide to build a non-isolated +/- 3.3V power supply. Attached here is the schematic as well. for the inductor I chose a 1mH inductor similar to this. The line filter capacitors are 4.7uF/450V. The first time I powered on the circuit the 1mH inductor blew. I replaced that with a 470uH inductor much like this one. This time the chip blew. What is going wrong here and how do I fix it?

Try to put a small Resistor 8.2R 2W in series with input or even better a inrush NTC Like page 4 of the datasheet

Thanks folks. What kind of inductor would be suitable for the AC line filter section?

Your answer is on the page 5 of AN 36 that you refereed, there is a table with models according to your configuration
