Anyone tried these monocular micro display modules?
« on: February 03, 2020, 06:44:20 pm »
I would like to use one in a project. I would interface it directly with a microcontroller without the original PCB.
I guess it's a parallel bus display without a frame memory.
Any idea about the manufacturer of the module? Kopin?

Hmm, neat! Thank you for pointing these out. Makes me want to think up a project to use one.  ;)

But won't 240*320 pixels be a bit disappointing? The display will pretty much fill your field of view, if they did a decent job with the lens design, and then the pixels will be very visible indeed.

I need to only display numerical information. The display will be placed about 5-10cm away from the eye to the bottom of the view.
I'll order one and check it out. Maybe the lens needs to me moved if used from a larger distance.

I wish you the best of luck, but the optics are likely to be quite challenging ... it probably has a high-dioptre lens to magnify the tiny LCD, which would make for a short eye relief and may preclude mounting on the outside of your mask.

Have you considered using one of those small OLED displays?

I once tried a similar module. It had a focus point about 2m away so it does not strain the eye. The optics was sharp in the middle but got quite soft towards the edges.

I have a selection of tiny monochrome OLED screens but they still need a lense. The resolution is also much worse with them. QVGA is optimal since I use that resolution on my wrist unit. The micro display can show the same screen.
