| Are flex PCB current tolerances the same as regular boards? |
| (1/1) |
| Marmotta:
I'm starting to design my first project using a flex PCB and was wondering if anyone knew how much current they can support? I've seen a bunch of different online trace width calculators online, but they all seem to be targeting regular PCBs. My project needs 5V @ 3 amps max and was wondering if that is something a flex PCB with a wide enough trace (e.g. 3.5mm) would be able to support or not. |

Yes, It will with 1oz copper |

OSHPark have just started offering flex , some specs here http://docs.oshpark.com/services/flex/ |

Thanks for the responses. I'll knock something up in Kicad and see how much OSHPark would charge for a one-off (or three). Assuming there were no issues with the board design, I'd probably be looking at making about 10-20 of them, so other makers might be more suitable, as the prices drop dramatically when quantities are scaled up a little. |
