$300 more than the DSO, seemed worth it even if I have feature creeped a bit past my original price point  :).

Hook, line, and sinker!  ;D
Enjoy.

Dave.

Lol Dave.  lets just hope I was not in a barrel too!

It is your fault.  In the video where you sniff the scope, I was already sold.  I want that new scope smell!

The 2465a on the other hand is going for less than $200 on ebay, and even then not as many buyers (several completed auctions have no bids).

So, whats the price with shipping to Denmark? :)

I am considering taking advantage of the Agilent special (free upgrade of fun. gen and dvm) to get a 4 channel scope.  I have searched around the forum a bit and know a little about what is out there, but I may have missed a scope or two.  I have a Rigol modded DS1052E, a TDS210, 2465A, and even a 7000 1ghz mainframe!   The last two are really a pain to carry around, and I tend to grab the DS1052E over the 2465A even when I could use more than 2 channels.

So....I am thinking of splurging a bit and getting either the Agilent DSOX2000 series or 3000 series.  Budgetwise, it would probably be a 200mhz DSOX2014A (with the 4 300mhz probes and upgrade 200mhz) for around $2800 or I could stretch and go for the 100mhz DSOX3014A for $3500.

Probably the 2014A would be a huge enough upgrade.  The 200mhz bandwidth upgrade is $300 cheaper on the 2000 series than the 3000 series.  Would miss out on the arbitrary waveform gen...sad.

What 4 channel would you buy for $3000 to $3500 max?

What's so difficult about carrying a 2465A around?
You should try a 524AD! ;D

i did. twice.. Hameg 604 and a Philips PM3350 combiscope.
now i buy used. cheaper , more bang for the buck.

You should do a video on the correct procedure to use a precisely tuned olfactory instrument for performing the obligate 'new equipment sniffing'..
Give hints on how to avoid papercuts and when to keep the sniffer probe ( proboscis for some well endowned people) away from overheating stuff etc ...

Before I read about the 3000x series, I had considered a used Tek DPO3000 series scope.  They are as much used on ebay as the Agilent 3000 is new...

A little better specs in some areas (100mhz more bandwidth mainly), worse specs in others (50K wfps, no AWG)...$6200 used...DSOX3024 $4100 new.

Those of us who work in a place where they do update from time to time can get the "new equipment smell" fix without any financial outlay on our part.
Of course, the downside is the probability of exposure to "old equipment smell"!

Yay, my MXOX3024A just arrived!

First impressions: wow!

Second impression: That display is beauty, wow!

Third impression: Is the fan even on?  Oh, yes it is...wow!

Well that is about it for the in depth review...going back to play with my scope!

(I did already look at the noise with a 50 ohm termination on ch1 and ch1 set to 50ohm input impedance.  I am seeing less than 1mVpp noise at 1mV/div, 2mV/div, 5mV/div and 10mV/div with band width limit turned off.)

I was in the exact same position as you recently and couldn't decide whether to get the DSO or MSO version and ended up getting an X3000 DSO.

I spent the money I saved on a LeCroy LogicStudio (http://www.lecroy.com/logicstudio/), which I think is a much better LA than what you get with the Agilent MSO option.

Yes, the only reason really that I got the MSO version was because of a several week lead time on the DSO...but I did get a heavy discount on the MSO version which made it worthwhile.

The woven cables and probes are NICE.  I didn't believe Dave about the "made in USA" because we don't make anything here anymore but corrupt politicians...but they really do say "made in USA".

I have already started triggering off the data channels...it does seem very nice to see your logic and your analog on one screen...

Hmmm... What distributor gave you a discount? When I bought mine, I found that no one would discount off the Aglient MSRP at all. Period. End of story. Maybe I just never found the right distributor...

Every official agilent distributor I have seen will only sell at the agilent approved price.  However, Agilent's price structure is complicated and flexible: there are a number of discount options available at any given time, demo equipment and so on.  It may be that agilent approved a discount because they were behind on stock, or it could be that the distributor signed you up for a discount that you didn't ask for or didn't qualify for.  For instance, educational discount is 15% on all agilent products -- that sounds like about the discount you received.  I don't know how well agilent polices this sort of thing, but the distributors have a lot of incentive to try to help you.  They know you can go to any other agilent distributor or direct from agilent and get an identical product at an identical price, so "do you have stock and can you deliver" are about all they have to compete on.

Yes, you got it right ejeffry.  I pm'd Sal about the distributor since I don't want to mess up future deals.  I believe I got the discount because of the delay in stock...when I ordered the scope it had said "in stock" and a few days later when it had not shipped I called to inquire and *may* have sounded a bit like I was thinking of buying a Hameg  ;D

The key is I was VERY VERY nice.  Hey, I am a nice guy...get more scopes with honey and all that.

They might not move on the price, but you can get them to throw in other stuff... That way they can offer incentives whilst sticking to their Agilent pricing agreement.

I emailed 4 or 5 different places for quotes. Most offered me 10% off MSRP and one offered 15% off. This was on a basic DSOX3014A, no upgrades.

I've used the tek DPO and MSO3000 at work, these things are brain dead slow on long memory (get some coffee in between the updates too if you turn on the math), and when you enable the LA channels scrolling is disabled which is the most retarded thing ever.
