Hi

Out of the giant bundle of locations and people that all got tossed together, They are talking about some very small numbers. If you expected the "old Atmel" to win out after the acquisition, you were dreaming. That's just not the way it works.

[...]The engineer noted a transcript of a May 4 conference call between Microchip CEO Steve Sanghi and financial analysts. “Atmel ran a very, very small wireless business out of seven different design centers, and we closed one of them which was in Germany in a very high-cost region,” Sanghi said in the call.

They sure like selling their products in high-cost regions though.

Hi

The shareholders of the company would expect nothing less ....Thus the "big guy" has an incentive plan to cut costs and raise prices. He makes his bonus and all is well.
