| Automatically turn on tablet in a box when opening the box |
| (1/1) |
| Medmeccy:
Hello everybody, unfortunately I am stuck in a project and would be happy for help! In the project, a tablet is to be integrated in the lid of a box / case. On the tablet is the instruction manual of the project. How can I open / switch on the tablet automatically when the box is opened? It would be best if there was a ready solution for it. Thanks in advance! Medmeccy |

Do you need to use a specific kind of tablet (Android / IOS / Windows / ...)? Will the tablet be plugged in or be running on batteries? I doubt you will find an hardware/electronics solution for this. All of the tablets I've used are designed to be turned on by physically pressing a button. The most likely approach will be a software one in which the tablet is put into deep sleep and is awoken by a motion event - like phones are: https://lifehacker.com/how-android-doze-works-and-how-to-tweak-it-to-save-you-1785921957 But this means that the tablet is always powered even if it will consume very little power most of the time. Note that even if you find a solution to automatically powering on the tablet it will take time (like several seconds) for it to boot and start running your application. |

My clouded memory recalls that old Nexus 7 tablet (2012 model) probably had a reed switch and could activate when case was opened... but I'm not 100% sure about that. |

iPads have a hall sensor for the smart cover/case. On my 2nd gen iPad mini it is just to the right of the home button. So all you would need is a strategically placed magnet. |

If it's an iPad you could look at the suggestion above. If it's an Android tablet you could use any USB keyboard. Android will recognize and use keyboards and mice connected through USB. |
