6 Layers and Buried/Blind vias service advice
« on: August 03, 2016, 05:10:30 pm »
Hi all,

I need to design a PCB for "wearable" purposes. My constraints are thin and light PCB with high component density. To accomplish this I'd like to use a 0.8-0.9mm thickness size PCB and to use buried or blind vias to increase component density on each side.

Since I've never done something like this before, what drawbacks I can find with such thin and 6 layer PCB(inductance, noises ecc.)?

Also, can someone advice me a "cheap" prototype service that can accomplish this?

Thank you!

Hi Yaro,
I do not believe there is any drawback in using multilayer board, excepting manufacturability issues, which are translated into prices and mechanical properties of the PCB. It is also harder to troubleshoot.

The more layers you have it is easier to route appropriately all the signals and guaranteed that you have solid planes for both ground and power.  Also, the thinner the dielectric more the signal and return path are close together. This minimizes inductance, therefore minimizing cross-talk.

As far as I know there is none cheap prototype service exceeding 4 layers. My advice is contacting or experimenting with online calculators of several manufacturers. For example in Europe, Multicircuits, Eurocircuits, Wurth Elektronik, PCB-POOL and try to find the cheapest possible technology selection that fulfils your requirements.

Thanks for your answer. I've checked now some services and found that 4 layer have suitable price with all thickness sizes(from 30$ to 60$). But when I switch to 6 layers prices start from 160-200$, with blind or buried vias up to 300-400$ and more.

This is becouse there is low demand on this type of PCB? There is possibilities that this prices drop a lot with batch pcb orders?
