Better Quality 50W COB LED?
(1/4) > >>
BigManBlackT-Shirt:
I have a 50W COB LED flood light mounted to the outside of my shop as a security floodlight. 2 years ago I had to replace the COB LED because it burned out after 6 months of about 12 hours a day usage.

At the time I went ahead and removed the internal LED driver and instead made my own using a Boost converter with adjustable Voltage and Current.

I still have to replace a burned out COB LED every 6-8 months and I've decided it;'s because I'm buying the cheap ones off Ebay and Aliexpress. So I now want to spend a bit more money for a name brand to see if they last any longer.

Do any of you have experience with a good quality 50W COB LED in the package as seen in this photo? If so, can you tell me where you bought it, model numbers, etc.? I've looked into Cree and Osram and all I can seem to find are the round COB LEDs and my fixture and reflector are for the square ones.

Thanks!!

Are you sure your enclosure is capable of dissipating enough heat to keep the 50W led cool?
Maybe you should look at measuring the temperature or running at lower power.

Look into Bridgelux LEDs...   I've never had one go bad... even those overdriven 100%,

It's possible the enclosure can't sink that much heat. It came with a 50W COB but that doesn't mean it can actually sink that much. I actually run the 50W COBs at around 37W but they still die.
