Building a RGBW Controller with RF remote control

(1/1)

PinheadBE:
Hi,

I bought a cheapo kit including an RGBW LED strip, a controller with its 40-keys IR remote control and a power supply.
I installed it behind my TV, powered it up and....... it worked as intended !  :-+

I was happy and looking forward to a good TV evening

And that was when the sh!t hit the fan: I turned on my WD TV Media Player, and... oh surprise .... the remote control of my WD TV was also commanding my LED strips  :wtf:

The only workaround I can think of is to replace the controller and its RC with another one using a RF remote control instead

But looking online for the available Chinese stuff, I didn't find a RC model which suits me: I don't need multi-zone control, I don't need all those flashy effects: I just want to be able to control separately each of the four color channels.  A bunch of preset colors would be a bonus but this is not mandatory.

And I did not find it yet.

So, I thought of building one: remote control with at least 10 buttons (ON - OFF - one increase and one decrease button for each of the 4 channels)

Any one would have seen a good design from which I could take some ideas ?

Thanks for your input

... which in fact is a 4 channel PWM controller, controlled over a RF remote control

The RGBW strips I use are not the WS2812 type, but have 5 connections: Common Anode, R, G, B and W

I can suggest you limit the range of the receiver or transmitter if possible(both is better).  You need to change the location of 1 of the devices and put it as far away as possible and I don't know if they sell this, but a box around the transmitter or receiver will limit its range and point it more accurately. Unfortunately RF hacks are not my specialty so I can't tell you what the box should be made of exactly so it can do the job.
