| Can a diode amplify sound? |

Yes, TD718 is a Tunnel diode (in addition to the varactors and the demodulator diode). It does seem to be cheating just a little bit to use a Tunnel diode oscillator as an RF exciter for the Varactor diode bridge though. A single transistor stage is going to win in all respects in this case ;D. Cute circuit though! P.S. can you count a TWT as a diode? |

You may use a traveling wave tube as well then :) --- End quote --- you know, the tunnel diode is not used for amplification there. It is a pumping wave oscillator for the parametric amplifier. |

so I now finally understood, I thought that the diode flows from the heater to the plate, I thought that the cathode only like set the "gain" of it but forgot that it literally draws currect from the cathode. so it can be done but you would have to use more power to drive the cathode than you would get out of it. I guess I at least learned a bit about tunnel diodes now! :-+ |
