Can I use 2 scopes with dual trace to see 4 traces?
(1/1)
Rollin Hand:
I have 2 tektronix tds 724 .How can I see 4 traces in sync ,how to sync the 2 scopes in sync?
oPossum:
Connect trigger out of the first to trigger in of the second. Configure the second for external trigger and the same horizontal timebase settings as the first.
bob91343:
You can also put the two external triggers in parallel and trigger externally.
Unfortunately unless you are crosseyed you won't be able to look at two screens at once.
A simpler way is to get an oscilloscope with four channels. Or obtain (or construct) an electronic switch, a device that once was used to make a single trace unit into a dual trace. You would need two of these.
In any case you will have to manipulate the trigger controls to get the desired display.
David Hess:
The trigger or vertical output from one oscilloscope can feed the trigger input of the other oscilloscope however it is usually better to just trigger the oscilloscopes off of the same source using their external trigger inputs.

A TDS724 is big enough that one can be stacked on the other. I have actually done this with 2230/2232 oscilloscopes stacked on top of each other and it is actually pretty handy. And as a bonus, the oscilloscopes can still be used independently to make measurements that a single timebase oscilloscope cannot. This duplicates the functionality of some impressive old instruments like the Tektronix 547, 555, 556, and 7000 series which could essentially operate as two independent oscilloscopes with one display.
