Repurpose 36V 18A Charger
« on: April 28, 2022, 06:02:27 pm »
For golf carts, as scrap, but may work as designed. The output has 3 pins. Thinking of making it a linear benchtop supply, either just multiple output or variable with LCD display. I expect to just salvage the transformer, rectifier, and caps if still good and use the same box.

same as this, different brand.

And any other thoughts of what this could become?

I think a linear bench supply that big usually utilizes a secondary with one or more taps, along with an automatic tap changer circuit, so the pass transistor(s) don't have the full voltage across them at all times. That doesn't make using it for a linear bench supply impossible, you could even go so far as unwinding the secondary to add some taps, but the transformer is less than ideal as-is.

It'd probably make an ok start for the PSU for a huge class A audio amp.

I know I injected the "linear" term into the discussion but realize the simplest thing to do is just pop in a Rui Deng DC-DC converter module, and I have one with blown fets. Would not even need to change the original function.

Or there might be enough copper to make copper jaws for my bench vise.
