Can you hack a CdS light sensor to include an FET ?

(1/1)

RJSV:
A long time pet project involves human retina simulation (in hardware).  An adjunct question:. Can
somebody point me to some really good reviews of
retina functions, from an engineering perspective ? I'm
thinking a textbook having such sub-systems like adaptation to ambient light levels, low and high.
So, my hypothetical CdS 'array' would have a cadmium chip 'die' that includes depositing sulfates, in
the currently used manufacture process, plus extra 'stuff' deposited on the cadmium substrate, for functional integrated FET.
Then, the suggested machine vision chip will need some copper deposits for interconnections throughout an array.  Maybe first exp build would be an
optical 25 by 25 array.  I'm maybe sending an existing gap between 3-D printers, and traditional vapor deposition techniques.  Are there near-atomic sized
3-D printers out there ?
My micro-array would include analog signal capable
connections to neighboring cells.  So a small pulse
could propagate to each adjacent cell, to the  left neighbor, right side neighbor, and above and below.
A small pulse originating from incoming light would
then 'leak' from a single 'pixel' and propagate in every
direction, encountering each next CdS based cell.  You
will need closely controlled gain/attenuation across this 25 X 25 cell array.
OK then that's my set of problems. NOW, what researcher can teach me about the human retina ?  Is
it a pulsed analog, pure analog, or partial processing
layer, to then migrate neurons out into the brain, wholesale for further processing.  That would include edge detection, motion sensitivity, and all the other processes that operate way way beyond a single neuron responding to light.
I'm willing to put the time and effort to study so
come on:  Any researchers out there rise to the challenge.  I just maybe can't afford a $400 textbook
on characterising vision systems front ends.
Thanks for attention. RJ
