How to assemble DIN cable thing
« on: May 15, 2023, 04:44:05 pm »
Switchcraft 15DL7M. It's pretty simple, it's a DIN connector. But there's this brass sleeve, and I haven't found any assembly instructions.
I'm guessing this goes over the cable, the shorter end is to be crimped and the longer end gets shoved into the strain relief?
I wanna be sure because I cleverly only ordered one, so I wanna get it right.
Why yes it's for a Commodore 64 power supply.

I would assume the longer end gets crimped to the outside of the cable, and then it's that rim around it that prevents the sleeve from getting pulled out of the strain relief.  But that wouldn't prevent the cable from rotating within the strain relief, unless maybe the shell clamps very tight around it.  Is the hole where the strain relief sits just a plain round hole, or does it have some sort of shape that might prevent the strain relief from rotating?

DIN audio plugs… the curse of my life since the mid 1960s !
Don't ask a question if you aren't willing to listen to the answer.

That's why I got this expensive one, it feels like a LEMO connector compared to the regular trash DIN connectors!
Plus I've wanted a 90 degree power connector since the 1980s.
