Casio F91W buzzer?
« on: July 24, 2020, 03:17:12 pm »
I'm working on a project to replace the main board on the Casio F91W with my own design. The original has a small beeper/buzzer which I believe is piezoelectric, but I can't find anything smaller than this to replace it: http://www.puiaudio.com/pdf/SMT-0540-T-7-R.pdf

The original buzzer is round, with a 3mm diameter and 1.4mm height. Something of the same dimensions would be best as there is a small recess in the housing for the buzzer, anything larger will require modification to the case. If not piezo what other other small buzzers/beepers are typically used in watches/pagers/etc? The watch runs off of a single CR2016 which gives me a drive voltage between 2 and 3 volts.

Here's an image of the original board and buzzer:

The product you've linked to is an electromagnetic transducer.

Are you sure the object the calipers are measuring in the photo, is a buzzer? It looks like an inductor.

I've opened similar Casio watches before. The piezo buzzer is normally integrated into the stainless steel back and consists of a wafer of piezoelectric crystal fixed to the metal, presumably with a conductive adhesive.

That makes more sense, there is a white piece of what I thought was tape on the back. It looks like white electrical tape. Think that's it?

It's normally a disc on the back, which is connected to the PCB via springs.
