Title: Cheap and compact usb hub for Pi Zero
Post by: frenky on November 24, 2016, 08:54:10 am
I needed a compact solution for VirtualHere USB Client for my thermal camera.
Pi Zero is great but it only has one usb port and I needed two (one for wi-fi dongle and one for thermal camera).

I know there are already nice usb hubs for pi zero but most of them are quite pricey and I did not want to wait 2 weeks to get it.
So I searched for tiny usb hubs in my local shops and found this one for only 6€:

Akasa AK-HB-07BK:

Took it apart:

I desoldered two ports because I only needed two and made it smaller:

Stick it on pi zero with 3M doublesided transparent tape. It's perfect match:

And connected power and data lines:

I'm really happy with the compact solution. ;)

And now I can use my i3 ThermalExpart as a wifi thermal camera (with virtualhere.com (http://www.virtualhere.com) software). :-+
