Choosing a microcontroller
« on: November 07, 2019, 08:34:56 pm »
I am looking for a microcontroller for an automotive application,
Main (given) requirements are:
-32 bit
-Dual CAN
-USB
-Dual UART
-Several PWM
-12 bit ADC
I have been searching on Mouser and Digikey and found some that satisfy the criteria, but on top of that, ease of use and good documentation are a must as I have limited experience if none on the subject. Even some sort of evaluation board would be handy. Any pointers on where (or how) to look?

I am looking for a microcontroller for an automotive application,
Do you need an automotive qualified MCU? If you do, that will narrow your choice a lot.

NXP has some choices in their line-up.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

You could try looking at some of the stm32f4 series. Some of those have dual can controllers and cheap nucleo dev boards.

Better to use the product selectors of the various vendors - NXP, TI, ST, etc.
E.g., https://www.st.com/en/microcontrollers-microprocessors/stm32-mainstream-mcus.html#products

If this will be for automotive OEM, then they all have a list of pre-approved microcontrollers. Another point is that if you will need to run AUTOSAR.
In general, your main options are mostly from Infineon, ST, Renesas and NXP.
