MOSFET/IGBT driver HCPL avago 316J
« on: June 03, 2017, 10:44:59 am »
We are trying to design an EV motor Inverter . The aim is >20KW power  with a Li battery about 200V giving 100 amp.
I have some high quality ROHM SiC Mosfets and for drivers I designed in  this Avago 316J- optically isolated input, Desat capable, fault reporting
optically back to controller etc.

I designed the four DC-DC converter supplies for ( +20Vand -5V isolated )  for three high side switches and One Common for LOw side switches
using SG3525 for push/pull action and feedback PWM control using the common 817 and TL431 chips. This works.

Then I started on checking Avago 316J - every thing looks ok- input 5v pulse  signal from a VCO (4046);  Output supplies  as per schematic OK.
BUT NO OUTPUT. Change chip - same status. Can somebody help , please?

be sure that the 316j can handle the Common Mode Slew rate that it is going to experience with SiC. datasheet says 15kV/usec, but with SiC, you want to have CMTI better than 50..100 kV/usec. if your circuit is not going beyond 15kV/usec, then you could use NOSFETs and save some money.
as for the rest: check !RESET = HI,  check !FAULT= HI, all DC voltages properly referenced  to the respective grounds (or SOURCE of SiC), all voltages = OK and well above UVLO, DESAT input either properly adopted to SiC (won't work out-of-the-box for SiC, but only for IGBTs, and then it sucks), or -better for diagnostics here- disabled.

An assertion ending with a question mark is a brain fart.
