Combined driving lights and turn signals
« on: September 15, 2019, 03:35:48 pm »
By way of introduction, figured my first post would be a share of a project I came up with several years ago. I was inspired by the combined driving lights/turn signals on the R8, where the constant white LED strip would change to a blinking amber turn signal. I wanted these on my motorcycle, so I designed the circuit and eventually a PCB, but only made one on a wire-wrap prototype board. I installed this but sold the motorcycle a short time afterwards, and never got around to making more for my other 'bikes.

Although I love tinkering on breadboard, I used the java "circuit" app on my Mac to come up with the basic circuit, then tuned the components in "the real world" before building the prototype. I have many variations, the one below is close to what I ended up building but you should get the idea.

Of course, this would be a WHOLE LOT SIMPLER with an arduino these days!!! I have a joint honors EE and CS degree from '92 - I've been an EE hobbyist since around '76.
