Computer Power supply conversion for Bench Supply
« on: November 28, 2019, 10:47:36 pm »
I have two hot swapable computer server power supplies that I want to convert for bench power. Model numbers (Emacs)M1G-6500P and (Estasis) EFRP-553V3. i know that computer power supplies needed an artificial load on a specific set of pins to power up the unit and deliver all the produced voltages. Does anyone have a schematic or pinout diagram for either of these supplies? Any assistance anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Welcome to the forum.
If by 'bench power' you mean a bench power supply with variable voltage and current limit (some refer to this as constant current) - bad idea!
Your first problem is finding the pin out.
2nd problem - some need a minimum load before they will regulate properly.
3rd problem - they do not have current limit, they will just dump maximum current output.
4th problem - they are quite noisey so not suitable for analogue work eg op-amp circuits

You see many many people doing this but honestly it is not a good idea. Just go out and buy a bench psu. They can be picked up very cheap on ebay.
There are many home brew projects for linear bench psu on the internet.
