Ground referenced load - N-Channel mosfet switching
« on: August 22, 2018, 07:04:49 am »
as we know if we decided to drive a load by an N Channel Mosfet, we have to connect the load to the Drain. Therefore the load would be referenced to the +Vcc.

is there any possibility/circuit design that allows us to drive a load by the N channel Mosfet(s), but the load referenced to the Ground?

It's called a high side gate driver, and yes, they are plentiful. :)

If you need DC operation, find one with an integrated charge pump, or create an additional supply to deliver (+Vcc) + 10V or so.

If all you need is the switch, consider using a purpose-made load switch IC, which includes the driver logic, supply, power transistor, and all the protection you might desire (voltage, current and temperature).  Also check under "hot-swap controller", those have similar functionality while supporting an external transistor (that can be much bigger).

Would you please mention a circuit example or a link?

What are you trying to do? If it's a lamp flasher or speed controller, then the oscillator IC itself can be bootstrapped. Here are a couple of examples using the 555 timer.

A lamp flasher

A PWM controller
