Thanks for the explaination. Too bad the only place I can find them with the leadframe is ebay, and the price is... well, not comparable to digikey. I guess I'll have to improvise (unless somebody happens to find something cheaper)

Check the official TE channels (distributors etc.). Normally you'd buy a complete reel of these things, but we've no idea how many you need.

I don't doubt it, with all the vintage computing stuff going on with so many .100 DIP parts, it's weird that these things aren't more popular.

These pins ensure no damage to the DIP sockets.
