Consumer grade enclosure for small/medium quantity product
« on: February 01, 2019, 01:31:35 pm »
Hi,

I’m looking for manufacturer that sells of the shelf enclosure with consumer grade design (not plain industrial square box with visible screw etc...).

This this for a wireless desktop product (kind of a network router with wireless), around 100x100x35mm. 1 DC Jack input, 1 RJ45.

I’ve found New Ages Enclosure desktop series (https://www.newageenclosures.com/enclosures/utility--desktop/) but they only have a limited choice when it comes to a given size. There is also OKW Synergy serie, but this is a no go for wireless since they are in extruded aluminium (https://www.okw.com/en/Aluminium-enclosures/Synergy.htm).

Do you guys know other manufacturer of this kind of enclosure?

Thanks :)

well an option is a extruded enclosure with screwed on metal plates and then snap in plastic cover plates. Or nice decorative screws, if you put a high quality chauffeured torx screw, it does look fairly high quality IMO.

medium quality = go with aluminum +. Plastic would be low quality.

internal antenna: NMV.

https://www.polycase.com

They may a a few things that are close.       They are the best place I have found that will do machining/logos for a reasonable price.

Your next to step is to do low volume injection mold to get the design you want.  protoloabs.com is a fairly inexpensive point of entry.

Polycase has the XR-46PMBT case (https://www.polycase.com/xr-46p)tha could fit.

The visible is screw is not really an option. I know that nice looking screw do exist (and I personally don't mind having visible screw on a product myself), but it does not fit our target design.

As for low volume injection mold, it might be the only solution for a fully custom enclosure.

If you do extruded al you can also use long standoffs to hold the front cover on and use screw in the back, where the power etc is.

In addition to the brands people have already mentioned, there's Pheonix Mecano/Rose Bopla and OKW.  Also Bud Industries, but I don't know if they have anything stylish like you want.  Hammond and Takachi would be my first picks if you want something easy to buy, though.

Yes but aluminium extrusion is not a solution since I have multiple internal antenna...

I didn't found a well finished case at Hammond. Takachi has the Network serie (http://www.takachi-enclosure.com/data/c16-17/2017vol3_1-10.pdf), I like the separate panel idea (easier to customize), but having a blank pane in the front is not really great I think.

OKW has the EVOTEC serie (https://www.okw.com/en/Evotec/A9441107.htm?var=02efea62-f7ce-11e6-a96b-d219e5f1410f) which is promising, but I heard they are expensive. I will ask for a quotation.

Bud Industries seems to target only plain project box, not any "fancy" design here as far as I've seen.

https://www.clickfoldplastics.com/  is a bit different.
They make enclosures that are good for low volume, low NRE, low cost.
Just another tool in the belt.
