Title: Could I get some advice on connecting an Arduino data pin to an IR IN plug

Hey guys, I have a device with an IR IN 3.5mm jack for an external infrared receiver that I want to connect to an Arduino and control with a remote library, like the one from Adafruit. I've been trying to find out how I would connect it together, but haven't found too much online. Is it possible to connect the Arduino data pin directly to the data line on the IR IN jack, would I need to have an opto between the Arduino and the IR IN port, or is there something else I would need to do?
