Connectors for large 7 segment LED
« on: April 08, 2021, 10:18:32 pm »
I bought some large 2.3 inch 7 segment displays to build a clock. The connector pins on the back of the displays are 0.020 inch square posts. Does anyone know where to find female connectors that would mate with these pins? I tried the standard 0.025 connectors but I think they are too loose to make a reliable connection. The only other option I see is to solder wires to the pins. Photo of the display back side is attached.

Why not lay out a PCB, then you don't need to 'wire' anything and you can integrate all the clock stuff on there too...

cheers,
george.

You don’t say specifically, but reading between the lines, you want to connect wires to these, not a board?

If so, and the pin pitch is 2.5 or 2.54mm, try either JST XH or Molex KK 254 (or any clone, thereof, like the KF2510 series on eBay/AliExpress). They both use the folded contacts that are quite tolerant of pin size.

But clearly these things are designed to go in a PCB, and that is what I’d recommend first and foremost.

why no design a pcb who just  fit under the display to  standard pinouts ??  bread board compatible  etc ...
