Cute 1980s SMT capacitor

Inspecting a 1988 hard drive PCB before powering it up and saw a trapped SMT capacitor.
I think through-hole assembly was still so much cheaper than surface mount that it was somehow worth the cost to encapsulate SMT parts in a leaded package for assembly.
Isn't this weird and wonderful?
Hoarder of 8-bit Commodore relics and 1960s Tektronix 500-series stuff. Unconventional interior decorator.
