Dear EEV, phone to audio.
(1/1)
abalducci:
Dear EEV blog readers,
I've tried to think how to make this post not too complicated. Basically I want to interface a standard audio out/in jack to a standard telephone line. To give the gist this is part of an open-source accessibility project I've been wanting to make for my grandmother in the US. Voice activated dialers exist but they are very expensive and limited on the private market. Plus not everyone has the vision capable of using such features on a modern cell phone. I can handle the software side, but am struggling as to how to interface the line properly. I've seen a few schematics online for say old versions of DIY answering machines, but don't know what to trust. I am also not sure where to look up the specs. I'd like it to be non VOIP for accessibility purposes/broad adoption.
Can anyone help me out ?

Best,

When done for broadcast use these are known as "Telephone Hybrids", looking by that name may be helpful.
