Aftermarket POE module device upgrade not working
« on: March 03, 2024, 02:04:12 pm »
Hi All

Got a product that I purchased that didn't have the POE option installed so I would like it to have POE.

started with measuring the rail voltage (5V) and purchased this 5V RT5400 POE module

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006181940528.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.17.4d91180264P9zP

I have done this to a similar product made by a different manufacture and it worked perfectly

Photos attached of product trying to add module too

Soldered in the POE module and the device does nothing.

Directly powering the 5V rail results in a dead short across the rail

Desoldered the output side of the module and measured the output pins of the POE module and nothing 0V.

The switch doesn't detect the device in any way either.

Have swapped module with another one

Have tested ethernet with the other manufactures device with the same POE module and it works

Have tried soldering different resistors on the pads on the input side haven't found a value that would do anything

Any ideas of getting this to work will be great thanks
