Hello, I want to use LMR62014 for my boost application. My specifications are as follows.
vin: 6V t0 8.4V
vout : 8.4 V
Iload(max) : 0.8 amp

I used TI's webench tool to freeze my schematic.

I would like to know whether the output from the LMR62014 is constant current (0.8A) or does it provide the current as per load requirement.
Please explain what is current mode boost converter as well?

Speaking in a nut shell, A constant current source tend to increase the voltage to make current constant. And similarly a constant voltage source will increase the current to make voltage constant. For a given load.



In your case it will it will provide current as load required.that means it will not be giving out .8Amps at 1kohm load. it will be only giving 8.4mA instead.

My input to IC varies from 6 to 8.4V
My output requirement is 8 V.

As this is boost IC, what happens to output voltage when my input voltage is between 8 to 8.4 V

It depends on the forward voltage of D1 in the connection diagram on page 2 of the datasheet. If Vin is higher than the regulating voltage of the converter, and Vin - Vout is higher than D1's forward voltage at the load current, you will get Vin - D1_forward_voltage on the output.

With boost converters, there is always a path from Vin through the inductor and boost diode to the output.
