Cadence beginner question/problem?!
« on: November 05, 2014, 12:54:52 pm »
I am currently doing a project at my university where I have to use cadence for some layout of integrated inductors. In order to get familiar with the program I have followed some tutorials where a nmos transistor is simulated, but I have encountered a problem while trying to simulate the mosfet. The schematic and the problem can be seen in the link below.

I have used a 4 pin nmos from the technology used by my university, but when I try to simulate I get the warning "Failed to resolve inherited connections on instance 'M0' in cellview. This is because the netset property "substrate" on this instance refers to a signal 'sub!', which is not present in the cellview". As can be seen in the link.

Does anybody know how this is fixed in the correct way?

If I connect the body to gnd through a 1m resistor and call this node "sub!" the program will let me run a simulation, and give me a results which is as I expected, but I am pretty sure this is not the correct way to do it.  :-\

No, that is in fact the correct way :) They use a global node named "sub!" so that all substrate nodes are always connected together. You only have to make a connection to that node on the top level of your design, as you have done. Except you should connect it with a low impedance, i.e. a zero-volt voltage source rather than a 1 M resistor.
