DIY Dry Film UV Exposure Box
(1/1)
Jwillis:
Well here it is such as it is. A UV LED exposing box for Photosensitive Dry Film For PCB.Nothing really special about the circuit
as it simply uses a Microwave oven timer control board ,keyboard matrix,12V 10A SMPS,EMI filter from microwave ,a fan from microwave, and a DC/AC SSR.
The SSR is connected to the lamp circuit to get around a 15 second cool down on the main circuit by desoldering the lamp relay and wiring in the SSR to control the SMSP.The light panel is 432 50/50 UV leds wired in 2 parallel  banks of 12 X18 LED strips. These were bonded to a sheet of aluminum as a heat sink. The key board matrix I had to make myself because of the odd configuration of the original key panel.I just omitted the one touch presets but kept the clock, set time and digital timer.
The microwave fan keeps everything cool.Got a friend to build the box since my carpentry skills never evolved beyond a chainsaw.

The exposure is quick at 5 minutes .A test piece of film I left under normal room light and hasn't exposed in hours.
The negative was printed on a Brother MFC 9440 CN
Aside from the keyboard it was a fairly easy build.
I included a few photos and a block diagram.

awesome project

Do UV LED is better then UV lamps?
Jwillis:
Couldn't say if they are better. Photoresist sensitivity peaks near 365nm. Fluorescent lamps provide near ultraviolet (NUV) light (300–400nm Wavelength). The 5050 LED strips that I used have a peak wavelength of 365nm.
The only advantage of UV LED over UV Fluorescent was availability in my case. Impossible to find UV lamps or fluorescent lamps locally.Probably because disposal is a pain.Local landfill charges a lot to take them because of the mercury content. Since I have to send away for just about everything electronic related anyway, it was just convenient to have a few LED strips added to a component order. Pretty much everything else was just junk lying around so it was just easier to re purpose what I had.
Not sure if light intensity is any different either. No way for me to compare.Maybe some here has some information on that.
