DIY Lion packs - 'Vruzend' (comments or anyone using them?)
« on: August 28, 2019, 07:03:40 pm »
Just asking in case anyone's had poor results with the design. I see 2 possible design issues at first glance:

1) Each end cap applies pressure to the cells end-cap via sprung mechanism (is this trustworthy >2 amps?)

2) Some previously spot-welded cells have (+) point inset with a small circular gap distance to the (-) wrap of case.
(can this kind of sprung mechanism move or vibrate to the side and short a cell?)

Each kit has enough parts for 54 cells at $40 USD (so not really an earth shattering price point..)

I haven’t used them, but I would be very worried about vibration causing increased contact resistance for any kind of mobile use.

If you have a high resistance contact on the -ve end of a cell, it might get hot enough to make the vent open. Or even hot enough to experience a “thermal event.”

Have not used them either.
Agree with jjb.
Commercial packs are spot welded for a reason !!!
Maintain contact. Minimise contact resistance. Immunity from vibration etc.
