BLE mesh vs LoRa mesh?
« on: June 22, 2019, 11:58:44 pm »
Hi!

Does anyone have experience/thoughts on BLE mesh vs LoRa mesh?

Which is more suitable for low power and projects where the sensors have to send out data 1-2 times an hour and receive data a couple of times an hour?

LoRa has more range but BLE uses less power.
Cryptocurrency has taught me to love math and at the same time be baffled by it.

Do you have any numbers for the BLE consumption? I read around 5mA average, is that right?

Depends on distance, LoRa is designed to go longer using less power, it is not "low power" as such.  BLE is relatively low power, it all depends on data rate and other factors, A good place to start is with the chip manufacturers datasheet, so look at Semtech, and perhaps Microchip or HopeRF for LoRa, the Microchip has LoRaWAN features and an additional micro to consider, the HopeRF is typically SPI so you will need to add another Micro to that.  BLE a good place to look is Nordic Semiconductor for the chipset, and Laird do a nice module the BLE600 series.

Not affiliated with any of the companies mentioned, so just have a look around and see what your needs are vs what they offer.
