Title: Dual channel USB wifi Card, Can someone tell me what these RF pieces/parts are?
Post by: rwgast_lowlevellogicdesin on July 10, 2015, 03:51:55 pm
Ok I have a dual channel USB wifi n card which I would like to add custom antennas too and I know the copper on the top is the ground part of the antenna and the center pole is under the solder mask. Im thinking it would be easiest to remove the shielding can and tap the antenna directly to the chip after cutting the traces but I was curious what these little things are called and what they do, I have an idea they may have something to do with a to d conversion but i am not sure.

Those are the external antenna sockets. You definitely don't want to cut traces, it's all impedance matched. just plug your antennas into those sockets.

I'm not sure exactly which those are, maybe hirose u.fl meant for something like this http://www.amazon.com/Laptop-Wireless-PCI-E-Internal-Antenna/dp/B004ZHT2JE (http://www.amazon.com/Laptop-Wireless-PCI-E-Internal-Antenna/dp/B004ZHT2JE)
