Female stacking headers with square pins?
« on: August 29, 2017, 11:32:46 pm »
I'm in need of a 2x13 0.1" pitch female header with tall pins - tall enough that they can pass through one PCB and still be long enough to reliably mate with another female header. This is a familiar problem; I've been here before. Many times. I have bought headers from different suppliers and different manufacturers, but they are always the wrong type - unusable due to having flat, flimsy, rectangular pins, rather than the square shape required to make good contact. I have dozens of them. I have spent hours troubleshooting intermittent failures, only to find that, ah yes, those damn headers don't work properly. If anyone can help me find a source for good quality female stacking headers with square pins I'll give you the ones I have as a reward.

If you had any idea how many pennies I have. Keep putting them in pickle jars and never get around to taking them to get changed. Very handy when you need something heavy!

There's a problem though, and it's my fault for not being clear: I'm looking for a supplier in the UK or at least EU - need them pronto!

You doubt the mighty Samtec???  They next day free samples of just about ANY configuration in the states.  Pretty sure you can get what you need from them quick.

Not sure how tall you need them.  Check out the MTSW Series.  Something like MTSW-113-28-G-D-125

err... you said female.. one moment please...

SSQ Series or ESQ Series

SSQ-113-24-G-D = https://www.samtec.com/products/ssq-113-24-g-d

Not at all! Looks like a great supplier! But I doubt they could get me those headers before the weekend, without me paying an outrageous shipping fee. For some headers. But. Your tip proved very valuable indeed - not only did you locate pretty much exactly the part I was looking for, but very helpfully it said on the page that it was a "Tiger Buy" product. Armed with a brand name it was almost too easy to find a company here in the UK who sell them - and what a company! Toby, where have you been all my life!? Absolutely incredible catalogue, and all available to order straight from the site. I mean wow, just look at their "board to board connectors" section. Almost brings a tear to my eye, I swear. WHY HAVE I NOT HEARD ABOUT THIS COMPANY BEFORE!?

Take it back!  Samtec doesn't rebrand/resell!
Sounds like they are a Samtec distributor.  Either way you order them I bet they are coming from the same factory :)

I actually feel a bit of jealousy here.  No one ever find anything useful when I ask for stuff on the forum!

Don't worry, I've never heard of them before either.

Toby are pretty awesome, I've dropped their name here once or twice before. Some otherwise awkward to find parts.

I do apologise, unreservedly, for any suggestion that Samtec are anything other than the #1 maker of, um, these useful things :) I'm learning something here! It's just that "Tiger Buy" sounded so much like some Asian brand that I immediately assumed... A natural assumption these days, no? BTW, did you know that "LG Electronics" really are "Lucky-Goldstar Electronics? I can see why they prefer the "LG" moniker.

I have now ordered £50 worth of 2.54mm pitch pin headers, spacers and sockets of every possible variety from Toby - including those elusive 2x13 female stacking headers I was looking for. Should keep me pinned for a while!
