General guidance for power traces and thermal control?
« on: July 25, 2020, 06:22:20 am »
I've been working on a little power supply, which consists of a DC-DC converter to get +/- 12V rails with 1.25A each, and a little linear regulator for +5V out. I've been keeping my traces wide and short where possible, but it seems like I'm just making it up as I go. Any advice or tips on what I have?

To dissipate heat, I have thermal planes and vias under both the DC-DC converter and linear regulator which draw heat towards the ground plane. A star ground may be a better solution to keep noise low, but then I would lose thermal performance. Is there any way around this?

Thanks!
