Harmonics: CS5463 vs CS54xx

The only CS54xx datasheet mentioning harmonic measurement is the CS5463. I'm surprised just one chip in the series can measure/'deal with' harmonics(?).

What do you mean? THD figures?

Is there anything more than THD figures in the CS5463 datasheet (haven't read ALL of it)?
I opened the DS for the CS5464, and it also gives THD figures. Is there anything more you were expecting, and that is present in the CS5463 datasheet (and that I missed)?

The CS5463 has explicit harmonic registers eg "Harmonic Active Power Register"

Well, I don't know how we can answer your question really, just ask Cirrus?

That said, other parts of the line do measure apparent, active, reactive power, the power factor... that looks adequate for many uses in power supply monitors to me, so I'm not too surprised that the additional harmonic measurements are not available on all models.

What's your application and what would you use a specific harmonic active power measurement for?

Yes. CS54xx is much more than just ADC. There's "power calculation engine" inside, most likely CPU core running some code.

Ok I see. Well, there you have at least one reference for that. As I said above, the applications are probably still not enough to justify including this measurement into ALL models of power monitor ICs.

Given the typical cost of a EV charger, I'd also bet that implementing this with a separate ADC + CPU would not make much of a difference in the end, except a few more hours of design work. It's not hard stuff.

So yes, this IC is convenient, but having that all integrated beyond convenience would make more sense for lower cost devices - for which I don't quite see the point of harmonic measurements quite yet. Just a thought.
