HC-05/06 Bluetooth chopup

Howdy Strangers.
Just needing some advice on adding an external antenna on an Hc-05 bluetooth module. The radio field is all smoke and mirrors to me and i don't have a clue.

On the HC-05 module the antenna is built into the board. I'm looking at a project that will be in a metal case so i need to get the antenna out so it can breathe in the outside world. Can i get away with mounting a IPX connector on to the PCB antenna and plug in a external antenna to that???? I've had a look and can't find a HC-5 with a jack on them from factory ,I see a CC2540 module has them.

It's not an elegant solution, but I soldered a quarter wave wire onto my HC-05 at the base on the antenna and it seemed to help the range/reception quite a bit.  I have done this on other cheap 2.4 GHz wifi dongles as well with a significant improvement in performance.  You could probably twist together two thin pieces of magnet wire to make a low impedance twisted pair transmission line and then fan these out to make a dipole.  I think a lot of the RF design in these cheap dongles may be intentionally poor to limit the range or just poorly done and so any kind of wire like that is an improvement.
